What’s Your
Quit Number?

The amount you need, the age you reach it, and three habits that bring it forward.

How it works

You don't need to be the smartest person in the room. You need a number and a habit.

Most calculators hand you a big number and leave. This one shows the age you reach it, the three habits that bring it forward, and gives you a pack to hand your wealth planner.

01

Nine questions

Age, pay, bonus, shares, what you put away, what you have. Round numbers are fine.

02

Four milestones

Runway, quit money, f**k you money, and the age work becomes optional. Each one in plain dollars.

03

Three habits

See how your bonus, your pay rises and property could change your date, in years. Then a pack to hand your wealth planner.

Your numbers

Nine questions.

About you

Round numbers are fine. Change anything later and the result updates.

A$

A$

Savings, shares, offset. Not super.

Cash, shares, ETFs. Not your home or super.

A$

Worth minus owing. Zero if you rent.

A$

What you'd want to live on each year.

How we worked it out

The numbers behind your result, in plain English.

These are estimates, not promises. They use sensible example figures so you can see the shape of your plan. A financial planner will check them for you, and should.

Your quit number

The amount you need invested so it may pay your chosen yearly income for many years. We use a common rule of thumb, the 4% rule: 25 times that income. It is an illustrative target; income and duration are not guaranteed. If you want $80,000 a year, that is $2 million.

Today's money

Every figure is shown in today's money, so a dollar in 20 years buys what a dollar buys now. That keeps your numbers easy to picture.

Your savings

We assume your savings and investments grow a little faster than prices, about 4% a year more. Your pay rises a little each year until 50, and you keep saving the same share of it.

Company shares

Shares in the company you work for go up and down more than a mix of investments, so we count them at 70 cents in the dollar. Spreading them out reduces the risk of relying on one company. It does not remove investment risk.

Property

Each example property costs $700,000. You put in a quarter as the deposit and costs, and the bank lends the rest. We illustrate growth of 6.5% a year in a well-chosen market, and faster for a few years in a rising market. Real growth may be higher or lower. It costs about $600 a month to hold after rent.

What we leave out

Tax on investment returns, rent and selling, plus fees, interest rate changes, buying your own home and taking a career break. Your pack has space to raise these with your planner.

Property growth compares with a 30-year national average of 5.4% a year. Full assumptions for your planner are printed in your handover pack.

Why a buyers agency built this

We help with one thing, so we'll tell you when it doesn't fit.

Buyers Boutique helps busy professionals buy good investment property in places we've done the homework on, as one part of a plan their adviser signs off. We don't sell property or take commissions from developers. We work alongside your planner, not instead of them.

  • You deal with us from first call to settlement. In the market we choose, a licensed local agent we work with finds the property and negotiates.
  • Hard rules we won't bend: no main roads, no flood history, no transmission lines, no industrial neighbours.
“For us, working in tech sales showed us that effort was rewarded. For nearly 30 years between us, we gave it everything: targets, time zones, red-eye flights. Property turned our best earning years into acreage in the hinterland and time back on our own terms.”

Questions

Fair questions, straight answers.

Is this telling me to buy an investment property?+

No. It shows what property could do to your date, including that borrowing cuts both ways, and leaves the decision with you and your adviser. For some people the answer is clearly no, and the page says so when property adds little.

Why are the numbers in today's money?+

Because a number in 2045 dollars means nothing to you now. Growth rates here are above inflation, so your quit number, your milestones and your income all stay in money you can picture.

What do you do with my email?+

We send your pack and, if you want it, a short series on how professionals use property as one part of a plan. Unsubscribe in one tap. We don't sell or share lists.

What happens on a discovery call?+

Thirty minutes on Google Meet with Jaq. We go through your pack, tell you whether property fits your plan and where, and if it doesn't fit, we say so. It's free, and if we continue, the strategy session and feasibility check are free too. Book a free discovery call

The next step

Take your pack to your adviser. Or bring it to us.

“Buyers Boutique is the company we wish we could have hired.”
Mike and Jacquelyn, founders

Start with a free discovery call. We look at whether property belongs in your plan, and how. If it doesn't, you'll leave knowing that too.
